What a material cutter does

Material cutters feed non-adhesive roll stock, measure it and cut it to a programmed length and quantity. This replaces tape measure, scissors and utility knife for materials needed in large quantities at the same length. The result is identical pieces with a clean edge and far less waste.

The TBC50 family manages up to 140 cuts per minute at ±1 mm accuracy and feed speeds up to 32 m per minute. Length and quantity are entered digitally; no tool change is needed to switch to another length. Operators no longer have to cut by hand, a monotonous task that strains hands and tendons over time.

Three cutting methods

  • Cold cut: a hardened HSS blade cuts heat-shrink and insulation tubing, sleeving, hook-and-loop, film and paper. This is the standard method and right for most materials.
  • Hot cut: a heated blade cuts and seals the edge in one step, so webbing, rope, cord and synthetic tapes do not fray.
  • Sensor cut: a photo sensor detects print marks or colour changes and cuts exactly there. This is needed for printed continuous labels, care labels and tapes with a logo.

Typical materials

  • Braided, heat-shrink and insulation tubing in wire harness and electronics production
  • Nomex® and aramid sleeving in motor, transformer and vehicle manufacturing
  • Webbing, woven tape and hook-and-loop in textiles, bags and safety equipment
  • Felt, foam and non-woven for gaskets, insulation and padding
  • Tapes, ribbons, rope, cord and continuous zipper
  • Label tapes and care labels, protective and release film, stranded and thin wire

Choosing by application

For narrow materials up to 51 mm and smaller quantities, the ZCM1500W or ZCM2500 is sufficient. The TBC50 series is built for continuous series production and comes in versions with hot knife, photo sensor, stacker, hot wire, angled or round cut. Wide webbing up to 200 mm is handled by the TBC50LH, very wide material up to 510 mm by the floor-standing TBC55xL series. Material feeders 110, 127 and 250 mm wide are available for high speeds and heavy rolls. The best way to find the right version is a free material test.
