Kapton® and thin polyimide tapes
Heat-resistant, very thin tapes for electronics and soldering
Polyimide tapes such as Kapton® withstand temperatures above 250 °C and protect PCBs during soldering or insulate coils. The film is only a few hundredths of a millimetre thick. After cutting it curls up and builds up static.
The challenge
- The cut piece curls up or sticks to itself.
- Static charge makes the tape cling to blade or housing.
- PCB masking often needs very short pieces that have to be picked with tweezers.
How the dispenser solves it
The ZCM1100K uses its creaser to press a slight longitudinal fold into the tape, so the piece stays flat and is easy to pick. For narrow polyimide strips from 3 mm there is the ZCM1000B, for short pieces from 5 mm the ZCM1000D.
Suitable dispensers
Typical applications
- Masking contacts and gold fingers in wave and reflow soldering
- Insulating coils, transformers and battery cells
- Fixing during powder coating and painting
- Heat protection in electronics production
